Boldplay holds Michigan Gaming Control Board internet gaming supplier licence 008270, issued on 13 August 2024. It replaces a provisional licence granted in April, and the licensee on record is Univam (Malta) Limited — not Boldplay.
What was announced
The Gibraltar studio said on 26 September 2024 that the MGCB had awarded it a full internet gaming supplier licence, upgrading the provisional one from April 2024, and that it had an exclusive agreement with BetMGM in Michigan. Chief executive Valli Fragoso called it “a significant milestone for our business”. It listed existing licences in the UK, Gibraltar, Malta, Romania, Peru and Buenos Aires.
Provisional to full, and why the gap
Michigan issues provisional supplier licences so a company can trade while the board completes its investigation. That investigation covers the corporate entity and the individuals behind it — finances, ownership, history — and takes months.
April to August is a fast conversion. A provisional licence that has not converted after a long period is worth asking about; one that converts in four months is the opposite signal. Very few announcements make the distinction, which is why the dates here are the useful content.
The name on the licence
The licensee is Univam (Malta) Limited, trading as Boldplay. Regulators license legal entities, and searching Michigan's licensee list for “Boldplay” may not return it.
This is the single most common reason a licence check appears to fail when the licence is real. Ask any supplier for the legal entity name and the licence number together — here, Univam (Malta) Limited and 008270 — and the check takes a minute.
What our records show
Boldplay is well covered in our data: six licences. A UK Gambling Commission entry (063833-R-338634-001) is at our highest tier. Five more sit at published-source tier, most with numbers: Michigan MGCB (008270, matching this announcement), Buenos Aires IPLyC (Disposición Nº 267-LOTBA/24), Peru MINCETUR (PSV0149), Malta (RN/286/2023) and Romania ONJN (173).
We record it live in two markets, the United Kingdom and Michigan. It develops slots, jackpots, scratch cards, table games and video bingo.
If you are buying
An exclusive with one operator in a state is a constraint as well as an endorsement. If you are the second operator in Michigan wanting this content, exclusivity is the first thing to ask about — it is mentioned once in this announcement and would not appear in a catalogue at all.
