The four tiers
Records differ enormously in how well they can be established. A company’s founding year is rarely disputed; a live licence in a specific market is the single most consequential thing on a profile. One label for both would be dishonest, so there are four.
The company told us, and nobody has checked it yet.
Treat as a claim. Useful for describing what a supplier does; not evidence.
Taken from a source we can point at — the company's own site, a regulator's news page, an official filing.
The record names the source and links to it. Check the date.
Someone here read the source, checked it says what the record says, and dated the check.
The strongest tier available where a regulator publishes no machine-readable register.
We opened the issuing regulator's own public register and found the entry.
The only tier that earns a Verified badge. The register link is on the record.
What the Verified badge means
A profile shows Verified when at least one of its licences sits at tier 4 — that is, we opened the register published by the regulator that issued it and found the entry. The badge is about a licence, not about the company: it does not mean we vouch for the supplier, their product or their commercial conduct.
It also does not travel. A company verified in one market is not verified in another; the licence table on each profile says which is which, and every tier-4 row carries the register link so you can repeat the check in a few seconds.
The limits, stated plainly
There are four we want you to know about before you rely on anything here.
- A register is a point in time. We record the date we checked. A licence can lapse, be suspended or be varied the day after. For anything that matters commercially, open the register link yourself.
- Coverage is uneven. Some regulators publish a searchable register; others publish a PDF, and a few publish nothing. Where there is no register, the best available tier is 3, and the record says so rather than pretending otherwise.
- Absence is not evidence. A supplier with no verified licence on Gamitas may simply be one we have not got to yet. The profile says “evidence not located yet”, which is a statement about us, not about them.
- We do not score suppliers on third-party review stars. We checked: across the companies we sampled, listings on general software review sites were almost entirely absent or stale. Ranking on them would have invented a signal that is not there.
Where the data comes from
Regulator registers and official gazettes, company websites and filings, and published event programmes. Each category, and how we attribute it, is set out in the data and sources policy.
If we have it wrong
Tell us and we will check the source, not the argument. Use suggest a correction or write to [email protected]. If a record turns out to be wrong we change it and update the checked date; if the source turns out to be ambiguous we lower the tier rather than leave a confident-looking record standing.
