Canada's publicly owned lottery and gaming organisations have launched the Canadian Alliance for Regulated Gaming (CARG), a national not-for-profit association for the legal gambling industry. It replaces the Canadian Lottery Coalition.
What was announced
CARG, based in Moncton, New Brunswick, launched on 5 October 2026. Its founders are the provincial bodies that return all of their profits to their provinces. The association says it will work with governments, regulators and industry on player health, consumer protection and stronger enforcement.
It names four pressures on the market: illegal online gambling sites, more gambling advertising, new products such as prediction markets, and fast-changing technology. Executive Director Molly Cormier said many of these issues are now national in scope and need one strong voice for legal operators. The group plans research, public education and policy work, and launched a new website alongside the announcement.
Gamitas view
Canada has no single gambling market. Each province runs its own. Ontario opened online casino and betting to licensed private operators in 2022 and Alberta is following, while elsewhere the provincial lottery corporation is still the only legal online option. A national voice for those lottery bodies is likely to push hard against offshore sites and against prediction markets, which some US companies are trying to bring north.
For suppliers this matters because the provincial corporations are big B2B buyers of platforms, games and lottery systems, and their policy direction shapes tenders. Our Canada compliance hub covers each province's model. The Ontario page covers the AGCO supplier registration that studios and platforms need before going live there.
